How do I reset my VPS root password?

If you can still log in, change the password over SSH:

passwd

Enter the new password twice when asked.

If you have lost the password:

  1. Log in to the VPS control panel.
  2. Select your VPS and open Change Password.
  3. Enter and confirm a new root password and save.
  4. Restart the VPS if asked, so the new password takes effect.

If this does not work for your operating system, open the VNC console and use your distribution's recovery mode to reset the password, or open a ticket and we will help.
