How do I set up a cron job?

A cron job runs a command or script automatically on a schedule, for example a nightly clean-up task.

  1. In cPanel, go to Advanced > Cron Jobs.
  2. Under Add New Cron Job, pick a schedule from Common Settings, or set the minute, hour, day, month and weekday yourself.
  3. Enter the command, for example /usr/local/bin/php /home/cpuser/public_html/cron.php.
  4. Click Add New Cron Job.

Cron sends an email each time a job produces output. To stop this, add >/dev/null 2>&1 to the end of the command, or change the Cron Email address at the top of the page.

Please do not run jobs more often than every 5 minutes, as frequent jobs slow the server for everyone.
