How do I create a MySQL database?

Most web applications, including WordPress, need a database. The quickest way is the Database Wizard.

  1. In cPanel, go to Databases > Database Wizard.
  2. Enter a database name and click Next Step.
  3. Create a database user with a strong password and click Create User.
  4. Tick ALL PRIVILEGES and click Next Step.

Your database and username will be prefixed with your cPanel username, for example cpuser_shop. When your application asks for connection details, use:

  • Database host: localhost
  • Database name and username: the full prefixed names
  • Password: the one you just set

You can browse and edit your databases with Databases > phpMyAdmin.

  • mysql, mariadb, database, phpmyadmin, database user
